John,
I've never asked for a raise either and was always taught you nver did. Because of that I've always looked to God to meet my needs by developing the attitude, He is my source not the church, the pastor, or the board. This is how puppet trax, jwm, the club & other businesses over the years have started. Looking for ways to get the Word out and help people and let God pay me. Money follows ministry.
When I read about Abraham he had more than one channel for blessing to flow to him. Flock, herds, gold, silver, servants, etc. As far as a decent salary amount check Children's Ministry Magazine they've had some info on this by region & size of church.
Hope that helps,

I am curious to know how you are going to recruit 183 volunteers as well!

Also, I have a question for you Jim. For some reason, in the church this subject is a little taboo. I am considering asking for a raise and wanted to know your thoughts around that. I have never asked for a raise and I have always been grateful for the small increases that I have received. My current salary is not enough to meet the needs of my family and I am not asking for a raise to support an outrageously expensive lifestyle. The cost of living around me has increased dramatically and I have been faithful to my pastor and church for more than six years. Considering all of these factors, I don't really know how to calculate what is an average or decent Children's Pastors salary. I just know that it is hard to make ends meet right now.
