Making A List and Checking It Twice

I love lists. Years ago I adopted an idea from a famous fat guy to “make list and check them.” I call this Santa Claus Management. Now most of us depend on “things to do lists” in children’s ministry but to me what really causes me to excell is when I make a “things not to do” list for children’s ministry. I thought we could do this as a group project. I’ll start it off and let’s see how many things you think we should have on our “CM things not to do list!”

1. Don’t try to do it all by yourself. Delegate to the faithful and build a team. It’s the best way I know to build fruit that last!

Your turn…

2.) Don’t neglect to interact with your kids and their families! Show a genuine interest in their lives! (BTW: word of mouth advertising for Jesus is the most effective way for the kids to bring in their lost friends and family!)

    3. Dont forget to duplicate yourself in others. This is kind of like delegating but even deeper. When you find that one person who has a call on their life dont forget to bring them along side of you to learn to do what you do. Then when it is time for you to transition you will have someone to pick up the slack.

    4. Dont forget that your main job is to support your pastor and make him look good. I like Bro Jims teaching on this. His posts and teaching have taught me that it is my job to make sure that my pastor shines. It is not his job to make sure that I shine.

    5. Keep learning. As long as the world turns, trends will change and bell-bottoms WILL come back into style. If you’re not learning, you’ll soon find that YOU are out of style.
