Praying with a friend

Saturday morning at our men’s prayer meeting I prayed with Andy Anderson, one of our deacons who is also a faithful servant in our bus ministry. Andy has a great heart for kids and is a good friend.

Andy prayed for at least 100 people by name. These names were written on his heart - he wasn’t reading them off a piece of paper or some “cheat sheet”. Some of them were bus kids, some of them were teenagers in the church, some of them were sick people, some were pastors, and there were others.

After we prayed, I commented to Andy about how my heart was blessed hearing him pray for all of those individuals by name. He said that several yeas ago he was impressed by Paul’s words “I make mention of you often in prayers” (1 Thess. 1:2).

How are you doing praying for people? By name? It’s something I am going to work on. After all, Jesus said He knows His sheep and calls them by name.

How can I pray for you?

“How can I pray for you?” Were you really asking us Ryan?
If so, just pray that God will open doors for me and for clear direction.

Yes I was really asking Darlene! I am praying for you even as I submit this reply. Keep praying for that wisdom that James talked about.

I pray every day / night for the children’s ministry at our church. I became the director about a year ago, and have watched as the ministry grew, even in the midst of a church who lost thier pastor of 20 years, as well as half of the congregation. It has been a bumpy road. But God is always faithful in letting me know He hears my prayers. A few months back, I started praying for specific children who I had not seen in a while, or who’s families had left. The very next Sunday they would show up…It was like “WOW” God is seriously letting me know He heard my prayers.

I’m brand new at this Children’s Ministry Director thing and I’m scared to death. We have Rally Day coming up and I’m frantically trying to pin down Sunday School teachers and put a plan together for the Rally Day program. i want it to be fresh and fun and exciting but the church I work for is not used to “new” ideas so its an uphill battle. Prayers would really really be appreciated. I’m reading blog after blog after blog trying to come up with good ideas but so far I’m just down to icebreakers, music, and snacks… and balloons of course!
