I’ve been so encouraged to hear this question from many people. I thought I would take a minute and give you an update on the magazine progress. The wheels for this new publication started turning back in June and they keep spinning faster and faster!
If you’re new to the blog or KidzMatter and haven’t heard, we are launching a magazine. K! Magazine is being created by people who work with kids just like yours every Sunday. If you want to read the story about how the magazine came to be, click here.
So here’s a progress report:
Our Editors – I think we have the finest team of editors anywhere. I am pumped about the energy level coming from this team. What happens when some of the most respected leaders in children’s ministry put their heads, hearts and hands together? You get something remarkable.
Our Senior Editor - Wait, that’s me. I am doing great, thanks to the strong support of my family and staff. I’ve told some of my friends that I don’t know why God told me to publish a magazine. I’m not exactly an expert at language arts (Proofreader’s note: AMEN!) and don’t know the difference between an infinitive and a participle. I never took a journalism class in college. I’ve never been in the publishing business. But we think that’s okay. It gives K! an edge. Because I’m a children’s pastor who rubs shoulders with tons of other children’s pastors, I have an idea of what they want and need.
Content - This baby is going to be packed with lots of cutting-edge, culturally-current content. What you’re not going to find is page after page of bullet points. Instead you’ll discover what’s working in churches like yours – small and large. It’s even bigger than we originally planned. In July, we were thinking 56 pages. In September that number jumped to 64. This week I approved 80 pages! Woo-hoo!
Subscribers - We’ve never launched a magazine, so we don’t know where we should be right now on subscribers. I do know this: remarkable things get talked about. This seems to be happening. Every day our subscriber base grows!
Advertisers - Another good report here - advertising reservations for the first issue have closed and we did better than we were planning on! We sold out of ad space!
Schedule - We are running a little behind on our editorial calendar. Seven days behind to be exact, but we aren’t in panic mode. We still think you will get your magazine sometime in mid-December.
What you can do - Well since you asked, here are some ways you can help us:
1) Pray for us.
2) Tell as many people as you can about K! Magazine. Word travels fast and we need your help.
3) Talk to us. Tell us what’s working in your ministry. We’ll try to feature it in the magazine. We’re talking about cool object lessons, games, outreach events, props, yada yada yada. Be sure and send some good digital pictures with your ideas. You might find it in the magazine. Submissions should be e-mailed to submissions at thekmagazine.com (spelled out to avoid spam).
4) Subscribe. This publication is something you are going to want to get your hands on and share with your friends and co-laborers in ministry. An annual subscription is cheap - less than 20 bucks a year. Click here to learn more.
We will continue to pray. Thanks for the update.
I’m pumped for you guys and looking forward to this great new resource!
You are a Holy Ghost bomb! Keep going hard, we are really looking forward to seeing and using what God told you to do.
Bless you mate.
If there is some small way in which I can help, either proofing or providing an article, please don’t hesitate to ask. I appreciate the synergy I am sensing in reading about this project.
I am looking forward to the inaugural issue. This magazine definitely seems to have the right timing, energy, ideas and passion. It has success written all over it. Way to go!!
